Through a simple registration process, new students can quickly get started with Riverbend Kumon’s academic programs. After over 25 years of facilitating intellectual growth amongst the Edmonton community, we understand the importance of quality academic supplemental programs. To ensure that families have easy access to our services, we offer a very straightforward enrollment process.
The first step is to reserve your space in our biweekly Parent Orientation*. Simply contact us by telephone or through our handy online tool. Orientations are hour-long events that are held every second Tuesday between 5:30 PM and 6:30 PM.
The Parent Orientation event is where you will meet with your instructor and learn more about the Kumon method. You will have the opportunity to discuss the starting point for studies and be able to ask questions. When leaving the meeting, you will be provided with a complete informational package to review with your child. Please note both parents and/or guardians should attend the parent orientation so that everyone involved will get the information needed to make decisions moving forward. If you are still interested we can book an appointment for placement test.
At this time, your child will take their Placement Test and you will have the opportunity to review the same with the instructor. Based on the Placement Test, and discussions with you, Kumon instructor will generate a one-year academic plan to help your child reach their goals.
Officially enroll your child in the program, where they will attend weekly sessions at the Riverbend Kumon facility. The program participant will also be expected to complete daily assignments at home. All work is planned according to individualized lesson plans, and success is consistently monitored by the instructor to ensure that the child is on track to meet their goals.
What Level Is My Child At? Is It Too Late?
It is never too late to focus on academics. That said, when parents wait for a bad report card or until the student is testing far below grade level, success becomes more challenging. Since the first few months of Kumon are focused on rebuilding self-esteem and developing good work habits, it is best to commence the program as soon as possible.
